How bad are frozen foods? Does every gourmet chef despise them like Gordon Ramsay does?

Asparagus with cheddar cheese

Mr Ramsay (is he your friend that you call him so nonchalantly Gordon?) doesnu2019t despise frozen foods, he despises frozen ready dishes, and rightfully so.

Most frozen ready dishes are just vile, and you can see that just looking at ingredients.

How actually gross they are is evident just by the ingredients.

,I have randomly picked this product, which is just the first I found with a quick google search.

The ingredients are: Water, Lasagne Pasta Sheets (14%) [Durum Wheat Semolina, Water], Minced Beef (11%), Whole Milk, Crushed Tomatoes (6%), Onions, Tomato Puru00e9e, Modified Maize Starch, Half Cream (Milk) (3%), Coloured Cheddar Cheese (2%) [Cheddar Cheese (Milk), Colour (Annatto Norbixin)], Carrots, Fortified Wheat Flour [Wheat Flour, Calcium Carbonate, Iron, Niacin (B3), Thiamin (B1)], Salt, Yeast Extract, Basil, Sugar, Garlic Puru00e9e, Onion Powder, Whey Powder (Milk), Oregano, Caramelised Sugar Syrup, Black Pepper, Whey Protein Concentrate (Milk), Wheat Gluten, Casein (Milk).

,Compare them with the ingredients for you very standard lasagne: Pasta (egg dough fresh lasagne); for the bechamel: whole milk, flour, butter, a pinch of salt, freshly grated nutmeg; for the ragu00f9 onion, carrot, celery, extravirgin olive oil, beef mince, pancetta, a tablespoon of concentrated tomato pure, milk, salt, pepper; freshly grated Parmigiano Reggiano; butter.

Far less ingredients and all natural ones.

,Now, the situation is completely different when talking about frozen ingredients.

Most frozen vegetables (peas, beans, artichokes, asparagus, spinach, etc.

) are a great resource, and frozen fish is fantastic when you live far from the sea and have scarce access to fresh fish (and the fish isnu2019t actually that fresh when it gets to you).

Even high-end professional kitchens use some of these ingredients.

But these are ingredients that require actual cooking, not just ready dishes made in a ver dubious way that require only reheating.

And this is made very visible by checking the ingredient list on the back of the package.

Behind that bag of peas the ingredient list is the shortest.

It just says peas.
