What are some infamous architectural blunders?

How Long do walkie talkies reach

Ever heard of a building that can melt a Jaguar car ?n,u200b,nThe Walkie-Talkie building ( officially called 20 Fenchurch) in Londons financial district has the infamous reputation of being able to melt parts of cars that are parked nearby.

The curve-shaped Walkie-Talkie building has now been dubbed Walkie-Scorchie after it caused u00a3950 of damage to a high-spec Jaguar parked nearby.

n nArchitectural enthusiasts on seeing this image of the building would now have noticed the parabolic and reflective nature of the building.

The whole blunder is caused by those aspects of the building.

,How does it happen? The parabolic nature of the building allows for sunlight to be reflected from the mirrored panels used on the building.

The tall and irregular-shaped building faces in such a way that sunlight bounces off of it and heads toward the ground, nearby buildings, and vehicles.

Check the image.

,u200b,The intense rays are given off for two hours a day when the sun reaches a certain position in the sky, managing to warp the panels and side view mirrors on the cars parked within the focal length of the concave mirror-ed building .

,,u200bnThe glare is so hot that it warped the side view mirror.

As the sun moves the glare will be at different positions on different buildings in different areas at different times.

Therefore the problem is bigger than one thinks.

,Now as a temporary solution, City of London has agreed to do away with three parking spaces in the direct path of the reflected sunbeams .

Architects are trying to create a long-term solution for this blunder.

n,,nEdit1: 2k upvotes!.

Thank you everyone.

I added some more info on this matter.

About the Architect? The architect is Rafael Viu00f1oly who also happened to design a hotel in Las Vegas called Vdara , which had a similar problem where the temperature generated from the solar glare was so high that the employees called the phenomenon as the Vdara Death Ray.

,,u200bnLook at that curve.

Rafaels creation is screaming to be sued by a bunch of sunburned vacationers.

,How did they fix the glare issue at Walkie Scorchie ?Work began on adding glare protection to the building during the month of May 2013, lasting around six months.

nThe solution has been designed by the original architect Rafael Viu00f1oly along with solar glare experts Loisos + Ubbelohde.

,,u200bnIf you look clearly you will see the shades.

To fix the problem , sun shades were fitted to the building to form a u201c Brise soleil u201d system, which costed around a few million dollars.

,,,Edit2: Thanks to Steve Denton I came to know that people fried eggs on that particular street where the solar convergence happened.

, nWatch the news clip where you can see a person fry the egg.

How long do walkie talkie batteries last

How long does it take to fully charge an electric car

The time it takes to charge an electric car can be as little as 30 minutes or more than 12 hours.

This depends on the size of the battery and the speed of the charging point.

,A typical electric car (60kWh battery) takes just under 8 hours to charge from empty-to-full with a 7kW charging point.

,Most drivers top up charge rather than waiting for their battery to recharge from empty-to-full.

,For many electric cars, you can add up to 100 miles of range in ~35 minutes with a 50kW rapid charger.

,The bigger your caru2019s battery and the slower the charging point, the longer it takes to charge from empty to full.

,Factors that affect charging speedThere are 5 main factors that affect the time it takes to charge an electric vehicle.

,Size of battery: The bigger your vehicleu2019s battery capacity (measured in kWh), the longer it will take to charge.

,State of battery (empty vs.

full): If you are charging from empty, it will take longer to charge than if you are topping up from 50%.

,Max charging rate of vehicle: You can only charge a vehicleu2019s battery at the maximum charge rate the vehicle can accept.

For example; if your vehicleu2019s max charge rate is 7kW, you wonu2019t charge any faster by using a 22kW chargepoint.

,Max charging rate of chargepoint: The time it takes to charge will also be limited by the max charging rate of the chargepoint you are using.

For example; even if your vehicle can charge at 11kW, it will only charge at 7kW on a 7kW chargepoint.

,Environmental factors: A colder ambient temperature can make it take slightly longer to charge, particularly when using a rapid charger.

Colder temperatures also mean vehicles are less efficient, so less miles are added per time charging.

How long does it take to fully charge a Tesla

UK answer u2026,Before my car was delivered I asked my electricity supplier to switch my meter for a two-rate device so that I could enjoy cheap rate electricity between midnight and 7am.

They did this at no cost to me, and shortly afterwards I switched suppliers to get the best deal on offer at the time.

I had been paying a flat rate of around 18p per kWh, but my new deal gives me a daytime rate of 15.

25p per kWh and a nighttime rate of 7.

73p per kWh.

,My car has a 100 kWh battery, which is good for about 300 miles of real-world driving (I could do a bit better than that if I drove like a monk but that wouldnu2019t be any fun).

It schedules its own charging so I have it set to only charge from midnight when I am plugged in at home.

I have a 30 amp charger on the side of my garage, the purchase and installation of which was almost entirely paid for by a government grant, and this has proved ample for overnight charging.

,If you do the arithmetic that means I get 300 miles worth of driving for u00a37.

73 (ten dollars US), equivalent to around 2.

5p per mile.

,However, it gets better than that if I go on a long journey because then I get the benefit of free supercharging.

Last Friday I drove to Edinburgh and back, a round trip of around 450 miles.

I stopped for breakfast at Abington and my evening meal at Tebay, and I put my car on the superchargers at those locations for around 25 minutes each.

I got home with just less than 40% battery remaining so I actually only paid for 60 kWh of my own power.

I drove 450 miles and it cost me about u00a34.

60.

In other words the cost of my trip was almost exactly 1p per mile.

How to charge a walkie talkie without a charger

Youu2019d normally use the factory charger, a similar home charger, or an automobile 12V charger adapter.

Short of these, then youu2019d need to have some kind of battery bank that can be used to recharge it, probably using an adapter cable.

,There are even some battery banks that have a built-in solar panel to charge the internal battery.

I have an emergency one in the car like this that also has a hand crank dynamo to recharge it from anywhere by hand when and if needed.
